In loving memory of...

Starting RMS has always been about more than selling cards. I wanted to offer a space open to everyone suffering the loss of their pet. A space to remember and honor their lives and how much they meant to us.

I'm not sure what the best format is in regard to doing separate blog posts, one post where the community can contribute, or even a separate page. For now, let's start with this and see where it takes us.

I want to honor the first pet sent to the site from a dear lifelong friend, Aaron, and his partner Chera. Their dog Cody is especially touching. Not only because of what an amazing boy he was, but also because I happened to be working on his painting while sitting and talking with my Nana. That night we spoke about love and death while I drew. We talked about the red threads and how strong bonds with our animals are.

It turned out to be the last night of Nana's life.

Were it not for Cody's passing and the letter I was writing to Aaron, I would never have shared that bittersweet, beautiful evening with one of the most beloved persons in my life.

Sam met Cody one time. He was anxious that night, and both Aaron's dogs were so calm and soothing. He said that Cody reminded him so much of Scarlet. From Sam and me, it's the highest compliment we can bestow on another canine.

As it so often is the case with dogs, Aaron says that Cody saved his life and not the other way around. Cody was one of those amazing dogs who knew just what to be when Aaron needed it-- protective yet not aggressive, lovingly affectionate, and the sweetest snuggle bug.
