Pet Sympathy: Cards that go beyond "the rainbow bridge"

Welcome to Red Mourning Star Cards' Blog!
Whenever I introduce my cards and the inspiration behind them, I always seem to start with my own search for pet sympathy cards a few years ago. I had friends whose bond with their cats and dogs was so much more than an owner to a pet. When they lost those companions, I recognized the heartache for what it was. None of the cards I found captured the significance. But it wasnt until I lost Scarlet that I learned how devastating my sorrow would truly be.
The rainbow bridge wouldn't cut it.
For one thing, I had no real connection or belief in a bridge made of rainbows that isn't mentioned anywhere in religion or spirituality, only in greeting cards and poems. It's a beautiful concept, but it did nothing to help me heal from the grief of losing my dog. I did know love though. I do believe it lasts beyond lifetimes.
The Philosophy and Origin Story
I'd read about the Red Thread Philosophy in novels, and it really resonated with me. There was something, a concept I could hold on to. Even when my thoughts on faith and life after death wavered. If nothing else, I could follow the thread in my dreams and find Scarlet waiting there for me. I painted my first watercolor attempting to capture that reverence for her, though my heart was still shrouded in the darkness of sorrow.
To me, the art and its imagery were the only way to offer a profound message of sympathy to those who lost their dog or cat in the years following. I began handpainting cards as much as I could for friends and family. Not being a professional artist, each card took me days to finish. I still have some that I started and haven't sent!
I decided to create this blog because the cards have never just been pretty paintings. It's capturing emotion that is my ultimate goal. I'd love to hear from anyone who would like to share their memories or personal journey. Send me an email and photos, and I will share them here! And of course stay tuned as I begin this new venture offering red thread cards in local small businesses. My hope is to reach online sales soon!
